ABOUT / LEKANG JI

Making ideas work in the real world.

I’m a Houston-based student engineer interested in the point where intelligent software meets physical systems.

View résumé

I move between computer vision, robotics, embedded hardware, and web software because the most interesting problems rarely stay inside one discipline. A good project can require an algorithm, a circuit, and a lot of patient testing.

My process usually starts by building a working version, finding the constraint that matters, and iterating until the result is useful outside the lab. Competition robotics taught me how quickly theory meets reality; power electronics and vision projects keep pushing that lesson in different directions.

Right now, I’m exploring ways to make intelligent systems more reliable and more tangible—especially where sensing, computation, and hardware need to work together.

THE JOURNEY

Built year by year.

Projects, competition, teaching, and service all feed the next build.

2026

Leading and teaching

Qualified for AIME, continued VEX V5 and FIRST Robotics, returned to Camp CAMP, and mentored students as an iCode lab assistant. Explored Rice EcoStudio and new electronics builds.

2025

New teams, new constraints

Reached USACO Silver, joined FIRST Robotics and Speech & Debate, attended Texas A&M GenCyber and Kinkaid EMSI STEM, and taught VEX IQ through Giveducation.

2024

Prototypes meet competition

Built an assistive emergency communication system recognized at the Houston and Texas science fairs, won the Texas Region 3 VEX IQ Skills Championship, and moved into VEX V5 programming.

2023

Foundations

Led VEX IQ coding and earned an ACSL Bronze Award, building the algorithmic and robotics foundation for later work.
